Here is what Suzy had to say…
When I first started Crossfit I literally googled, ‘Crossfit Before and After.’  I wanted to know that I would get results.  I saw amazing pictures of females who went from flabby to six pack abs in 3 months.  I decided I would try it.  After 3 months, I had GREATLY improved, but I still did not have the body I thought I was promised from many online testimonials.  It took me some time to realize that we are all different and bodies respond to exercise differently.  I have been an athlete all my life, so mto get back in shape, my body made me work for the damage I had done during the 4 years in college of inactivity and partying.  I started at Moxie only coming 2-4 times per week; however, I quickly began to enjoy each workout more and became a junky.  I now come at least 5 times per week and literally feel ‘off’ if I don’t go.  Becoming a part of Moxie has improved my life in many other ways.  Once starting Crossfit I became more aware of my nutrition and lifestyle in general.  For the 10 months I have been a member at Moxie, my lean muscle mass has continually increased and my performance has improved every week.  Chris, Ben, Eric and Drew continually coach and help you in all areas of Crossfit.  Whether it be Ben helping with a snatch, Chris showing you how to dominate on box jumps or Eric just being an ass, everyone contributes to your athleticism at Moxie. Because of the help and support from the coaches, I knew that when the Moxie Challenge was announced I would kill it.

I ate 80% paleo before I began the Moxie Challenge; however, when we went started I went 100%.  I began tracking my food when I started Crossfit, so calorie counting was nothing new to me.  I am a person with little self control, so in order to make good eating decisions, I have to see the calories on ‘paper’ before I eat them.  For 7 long weeks, I logged my calories each night for the next day-planning each meal (I even planned the calories at the Moxie party).  While I know this is not realistic for a lifestyle, it greatly helped me during the challenge.  I used to not focus on my percentages of protein, carbs and fats at meals before the challenge.  Thanks to the nutrition talk we had at Moxie I began paying more attention and it helped me tremendously.  Before the challenge I was eating well, but not eating the right proportions.  I consumed about 60% of my calories from protein and 15% from carbs.  During the challenge, I learned that my body requires more carbs to function efficiently.  I limited my calorie intake, nixed alcohol and grains and began running on top of the WOD.  Some days I felt like shit-I felt weak and I didn’t want to be at the box.  However, others I walked in feeling amazing and crushed WODs that used to kill me.  Before the challenge, I had accepted many of my PR’s as lifetime PR’s.  I did not think I would lift any more weight on a calorie restriction.  I learned, however, if you eat the right stuff, it works.  I lifted 5 more pounds on my deadlift (313), which for me was huge.  I PR’d on my strict press, push jerk, clean, and clean & jerk and on many benchmark WOD’s.  My double unders, which I HATE, improved immensely.  I knew that for the challenge this would be the place I could improve on the most, so I purchased a jump rope and practiced at home as well.  The last week of the challenge I did 20 unbroken double unders during a WOD, which is a personal best.  I also realized that running isn’t so bad.  I still do not enjoy it, but I am more motivated to improve.  I frequently checked the Crossfit Endurance website and did their WOD in addition to Moxie’s.  I also did my first 10k during the challenge and have committed to doing a number of races in 2011.  I am hoping to complete my first ½ marathon in the Spring and a marathon by 2012.

Crossfit has helped me realign my life.  This is not a gym membership or a fad diet-it is a way of life and a community.  I have met the most amazing people at Moxie and have made changes that will last forever.  As cheesy at it sounds, I respect my body so much more.  I will not gain the weight back, or the fat.  I have changed the way I look at food and life.  The most exciting part is, is that there is still so much room to improve.  I can still get stronger, leaner, faster and better.  I love the fact that Moxie coaches know what I am capable of and let me know when I am selling myself short.  They will always push you further or let you know how you can do better- and they will let you know when you have done well, and encourage you to enjoy it (free beer Friday, anyone?)

Since starting Crossfit I went from not being able to do pushups, pullups, run a mile without stopping, or doing any kind of Olympic lifts to doing 100+ pushups in a workout, strict or kipping pullups, run 6 miles without stopping, and pull 138 pounds off the ground and put it over my head.  I have had gym memberships, done club sports and at home DVDs, but never have I had results like I do now or have I been pushed like I am now.  No matter what you do at home, nothing will get you moving like 3-2-1 GO!

Here is what Beau has to say…
I played sports my entire life up through college.  That whole time, I consistently pushed myself physically to be the best.  When sports were over, I had no incentive (I thought) to keep going to the gym.  I worked out casually for several years after college but never really took it seriously.  After a few more years I stopped going to the gym altogether.  My friend Ben urged me to get back into shape with him at MOXIE.  I agreed.

So, after two and a half years sitting on the couch, I started Crossfitting.  It wasn’t easy at first. In fact, it hurt.  But the ringing endorsement I heard from Dawn (Last Name) helped me stay motivated:  We were jogging 200m for a warm-up on my third day at MOXIE. Making conversation, I light-heartedly asked her what she thought about the Crossfit workouts.  I’ll never forget her response. She looked me dead in the eye, and plainly responded, “It changed my life.”

That’s what I wanted for my life.  And that’s exactly what I got.  The atmosphere at Moxie is incredible.  The coaches are all knowledgeable and motivating.  The experience I’ve had here has been amazing.

I can also say this with certainty: Not all Crossfit gyms are created equally.

My brother is a member of a different Crossfit gym (that shall remain nameless) and has not shared the same experience that I have had at Moxie.  While his workouts are similar, the atmosphere is a stark contrast to the warm camaraderie at MOXIE.  Moxie has actual professional coaches who teach the workouts rather than just tell you what to do.  Anyone can write up a Crossfit workout and show you how to do the exercises.  Moxie Coaches know how to TEACH the lifts/exercises and modify them ten different ways to accommodate people at varying levels of fitness.

So, if you’re out there wondering if Crossfit Moxie is right for you…. IT IS!  Whether you are an Ironman Triathlete or struggle to walk up a single flight of stairs, MOXIE will get you to your goals.
